Patriotism

I'm impressed...I am actually posting again in less than a month...darn, in just over a week! Good Kat...

So, here's what brought this on...a friend posted a video from 1938. Kate Smith introduced, over the radio, a brand new song, written by Irving Berlin, called "God Bless America." This video was very apropos, to me, in that there was a short clip showing Ronald Reagan.

I've seen this video before. However, this time I cried...couldn't help it. Maybe it's because I'm older. But, when I started to talk about it with my Wolf, he said something that rang true...we were Americans then, unlike the kind of Americans we are now.

But, that made me also realize something else. During that time of patriotism, we were also prejudiced, bigotry was rampant, women weren't equal to men, and I (personally) would have died if I had to wear a dress and girdle everyday. Just a few of many other things.

Now I'm wondering...why do we have to lose things to gain things? I would love for all of us to have that kind of patriotism but continue to have the rights, acceptance, and equality that I think we now have. Instead, it feels like the patriotism has diminished.

Just my thoughts...
